How does the build-your-own sandwich work?

It’s a complete lunch combo that you customize exactly how you want it.
What are Boricua Bowls and when can I get them?
Boricua Bowls are hearty Puerto Rican rice bowls served exclusively on Tuesdays. They feature seasoned rice, slow-roasted marinated pork, traditional beans, crunchy island chips, and authentic Caribbean seasonings. “Boricua” comes from Borinquen, the indigenous name for Puerto Rico. They’re filling, flavorful, and available while supplies last, we make them fresh each Tuesday morning.
Do empanadas really sell out?
Yes! Our empanadas are handmade fresh every Wednesday morning in limited quantities using traditional Puerto Rican techniques. They’re labor-intensive to make, so we can’t produce huge batches. Regulars often visit us online or come in early to reserve theirs. If you want empanadas, come early or reserve them online at order.alexanderswalhalla.com. We update online quantities when they’re ready every Wednesday.
What fillings do empanadas come in?
Fillings vary weekly but typically include Chicken (Pollo), Spicy Chicken (Pollo Picante), Beef (Carne), and Pizza. We rotate based on what we prepare that week, so selection may differ from Wednesday to Wednesday.
What's on a Cubano sandwich?
Our authentic Cubano features slow-roasted marinated pork, Boar’s Head honey ham, Swiss cheese, dill pickles, and yellow mustard on Cuban bread, pressed hot until the cheese melts and the bread crisps. It’s available exclusively on Thursdays while supplies last.
Is the tuna salad made in-house?
Yes, it’s made fresh in our kitchen. Our tuna salad is classic and perfectly seasoned.
What's the best bread for chicken salad?
Most people love it on a buttery croissant since the flaky texture pairs perfectly with creamy chicken salad. But it’s also great on a wrap if you’re eating on the go, or on multigrain panini if you want something heartier. Ultimately, it’s your preference!
Can I get breakfast items during lunch hours?
Absolutely! Our full breakfast menu is available all day. If you want a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel at 2 PM, go for it. We don’t stop serving breakfast when lunch starts, everything’s available from open to close.
Do you offer lunch catering?
Yes! We cater sandwich platters (assorted and cut in halves), empanada trays, Cubano sandwich platters, complete lunch boxes with sides and drinks, and various pastry and bagel trays. We need at least 48 hours advance notice, and longer for certain items. Are the Puerto Rican specials available to order online?
Boricua Bowls, empanadas, and Cubanos are made in limited quantities, so they may not always appear in our online ordering system. We try to ensure the quantities are up-to-date when they are ready online but sometimes we get busy! We recommend coming in early if they aren’t showing online to reserve yours, especially for empanadas on Wednesdays, which go quickly.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
We can accommodate many dietary needs. Our BLT, tuna salad, and most sandwich options can be modified. Pimento cheese is vegetarian, and many sandwiches work on wraps if you need something lighter. Let your server know about allergies or restrictions when ordering and we’ll work with you to find something that fits.
What sides come with lunch combos?
Choose from crispy kettle-cooked potato chips (various flavors), creamy potato salad, or our pasta salad. All combos include one side plus your choice of drink.
Can I just order a sandwich without the combo?
Yes! You can order any sandwich à la carte if you don’t want the combo deal with side and drink. Just let us know when ordering.
